The Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Board (ODOB) has appointed Elmarie Stander as its new registrar. Stander’s experience includes policy and advocacy work, both from the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine, where she managed its Aotearoa office, and from the New Zealand Qualifications Authority and Medical Council of New Zealand.

ODOB chair Jayesh Chouhan said Stander brings a wealth of experience in regulation and the board is thrilled with her appointment. “Elmarie is fantastic and an absolute pleasure to work with.”

Stander said she’s excited to work with ODOB and its members. “The board is made up of passionate experts. Through their respective scopes of practice, they are focused on protecting and promoting public health and safety for all New Zealanders. They have a strong strategic focus, yet they are agile and very progressive.”

Originally from Pretoria, South Africa, Stander resides in Wellington, where she enjoys spending time with her family and her two Cavalier King Charles spaniels.
