Bausch + Lomb (B+L) has launched the second product in its silicone hydrogel daily disposable contact lens range. Now available in New Zealand, B+L describes the lens as a refinement designed to deliver seamless vision and predictable fitting for presbyopic patients.

B+L professional services manager Simon Hanna said the Ultra One Day multifocal lens was developed for increasingly active presbyopes who “like to run and lead active lives and are frustrated that they can’t do what they used to be able to do”.

The lens features a ‘3-Zone Progressive’ design, with concentric zones supporting near, intermediate and distance vision. B+L says its modelling captures seven human vision factors to calculate the power profile, supporting smooth transitions between distances and minimal perceptible lag when shifting focus. These factors include residual accommodation, axial length, higher-order aberrations, corneal topography/diameter, anterior chamber depth, pupil size and subjective refraction.

Company data presented at the CCLS conference in Tauranga in February indicated stable vision performance across all zones, with 87% of patients successfully fitted in a single visit using a simplified low- or high-add selection.

Hanna explained the lens incorporates the company’s advanced MoistureSeal Technology, which the company states retains 96% of its moisture for up to 16 hours. Moisturisers, osmoprotectants and electrolytes in the blister solution are designed to diffuse into the lens matrix to support comfort.

The silicone hydrogel material also provides UVA- and UVB-blocking, with the company positioning the lens as a complete option, combining oxygen permeability, moisture retention and progressive optics in a single platform.
