Researchers from the University of Michigan have developed a do-it-yourself breath shield for slit lamps and other instruments to protect eye care professionals and their patients during an eye exam.

The shield needs to be fabricated from a large piece of acrylic or other solid, transparent material and is larger than most existing commercial models. It is designed to be easily and rapidly made by anyone with access to the downloadable design file and a CNC machine, said researchers

Technical drawings are free for anyone to download and fabricateor modify, in five different formats to facilitate dissemination and use
