Optometry Australia’s Clinical and Experimental Optometry’s new editor is optometrist, academic and researcher Emeritus Professor Nathan Efron. He takes over from Emeritus Professor Barry Collin AM, who retired in March after 24 years in the role. Professor Efron will lead the journal, which is one of the top optometry journals in the world, along with Deputy Editor Dr Maria Markoulli.
In his first editorial in the May issue, Prof Efron said the status of optometry as an independent profession – which requires that it be underpinned by a thorough evidence base – demands that a learned journal be retained as the centrepiece of its activities. He says the editorial board has been streamlined, author guidelines have been revised, a more purposeful approach has been taken on content, page numbers have been increased, promotion of the journal online has been re-energised, access has been made easier and a fresh new look is about to be introduced.
