A US survey of adult singles found glasses positively influence attraction and first-date choices, with 45% of male respondents saying they are more drawn to spectacle-wearers.

In US eyewear retailer EZContacts’ poll of 1,000 people, 58% also said eye contact felt more intimate than physical touch. Overall, 58% said glasses make someone more attractive, with 69% of men agreeing versus 46% of women. Almost half (44%) of male respondents said they were more likely to ‘swipe right’ – signalling romantic interest on dating apps – for a glasses-wearer vs a quarter (24%) of women. However, 41% of glasses-wearers said they remove them from their profile photos and 25% avoided wearing them on dates, with nearly one in three opting for contact lenses instead.

Women favoured potential dates who wore tortoiseshell or black and men preferred transparent or colourless frames. Oversized fashion frames fared worst, ranking least attractive by almost half of all respondents. Frame choices were also felt to convey political leanings, with bold, round ‘retro’ shapes viewed as liberal and classic black or aviator styles seen as conservative.
