Entering the Pullman Auckland Hotel, guests had stars in their eyes as they were welcomed by scintillating lights, gleaming balloons and flickering candles of the annual Eyeball, Eyelumination: Festival of Lights, hosted by the University of Auckland’s School of Optometry and Vision Science.
With over 200 guests, including staff and sponsors, a glitzy night of tasty food and drinks, with good company and dancing was guaranteed! The 2019 theme was Eyelumination: Festival of Lights, with the Pullman Hotel appropriately decked out in fairy lights. The flashiest-dressed awards went to Lynn and Adam Bond, and Lesley Kung for her shimmery dress / fairy light crown combo.
A new award, named The Brightest Future (and most likely to return to University of Auckland as a supervisor) went to Muthana Noori. Further awards for the Most Lit, Most ‘Glowy’ Couple and Brightest Smile were also given out to students in part II-V.
The Eyeball is a shining beacon of light and the optometry community’s ‘littest’ event of the year, which once again was a glimmering success. It would not have happened without generous sponsors: Auckland Eye, Specsavers, OPSM, NZOSS, NZAO and Essilor. A big thanks also to the ball committee: Theresa Yeung, Ricky Xue, William Tang, Jessie Ye, Linda Zhou and Cindy Cheakhun, whose effort and time ensured a bright night for all. With memories of a sparkling occasion, we all await with excitement, the 20/20 Eyeball.
Cindy Cheakhun is a part IV student aand member of the 2019 Eyeball committee.
