ILS' Glenn Bolton and John Clemence modelling the new lab equipment

Independent Lens Specialists (ILS) and Shamir New Zealand have extended the capabilities of their full-service laboratory in Christchurch, installing two complete freeform production lines producing digital lenses, including a new Satisloh VFT freeform generator and polisher.

“This is an exciting time for us and our customers. The extended production line and advanced lens equipment will not only allow us to be more environmentally conscious, providing energy savings of 20%, but it will also enable us to double our current production capacity just before the busy season,” said Glenn Bolton, ILS co-founder and Shamir New Zealand manager. “Production and delivery speed will improve, enabling us to handle Shamir specialty products with a shorter turnaround time without compromising on quality, which is a big part of our ethos.”

A third production line is planned later this year.
