On-demand tint and audio with new smart sunnies

Debuting at Silmo, tech company Ampere has launched its new electrochromic smart sunglasses, Dusk.

Unlike traditional photochromic lenses, Dusk’s lenses allow the wearer to electronically adjust the tint level in just 0.1 seconds and save their preferred settings using the Ampere smartphone app. Alternatively, a touch control on the left of the frame allows the wearer to choose between three tint levels or allow the lenses to adjust automatically.

Dusk’s open-ear audio system has speakers discreetly hidden in each arm’s interior and is controlled by touch or voice. A button on the right side of the frame enables access to Siri and Google Assistant. The button also allows the wearer to answer calls, pause or skip songs.

Dusk is available as a classic and timeless slightly oversized Wayfarer style with UVA/UVB-blocking polarised lenses. The electronics are waterproof and a hidden space for an Apple AirTag in the charging case ensures the wearer won’t lose them.
